Our Process

Primo Beef is a low volume family-owned operation. We offer grass-fed beef by partnering with local cattle ranchers that meet Primo Beef's vetting requirements. As part of the quality control cattle are transported and finished on grass on our small farm in Woodland, Washington.

We apply regenerative farming practices by utilizing the land and resources available. We maintain a low volume of cattle in order to prevent over grazing and minimize costs while still ensuring quality. Through the spring and summer, the cows are fed through effective rotational grazing, allowing for the nutrient rich grass to rest and regrow. In the winter they are supplemented with an alfalfa/orchard grass mix, which provides the nutrients needed in the dormant months where there is not as many nutrients in the soil.

We have a USDA approved grass-fed process, which ensures all cows are truly grass-fed. All cattle must have continuous access to pasture and not confined to feedlots. We ensure corn and/or grain is not part of their diet. As part of the finishing process, we are required to keep cattle on our property for a period of time before they are processed. They are then transported to a facility in Oregon where the animals are humanely processed under USDA inspection.

The beef is dry aged, which is the process of exposing the meat to a carefully controlled environment with precise temperature and humidity levels for a period of time. Through the process of dry aging, the moisture is drawn out of the meat, so the flavor becomes concentrated. It's a process that not only helps the meat develop flavor, but also makes it far more tender than it would be completely fresh. The meat is then vacuum sealed, labeled, and date of processing. This type of packaging will extend shelf life on average of 2 to 3 years. When thawing out it will not leak or leave a mess.

Online Primo Beef offers small boxes from 16 pounds up to full shares of beef. This makes it affordable and easily stored in most family’s home refrigerators. The boxes are packed with a variety of cuts to ensure that the animal is completely utilized, and nothing goes to waste. We offer just about every cut and try to utilize as much of each animal as possible. We sell by the cut at the Vancouver Farmers Market at Esther Short Park and a few local stores – The Woodland Corner Store and A&J Market in Stevenson.

We offer local delivery and flexible pick-up options. Customers can meet us at the Vancouver Farmers Market or pick-up their orders at the Woodland Corner Store. We are flexible, so don’t be afraid to ask us any questions. We can be reached by email, phone, or in person at the Farmers Market.
